Architecture is in Fashion

Literally! Why are architecture and fashion so indelibly linked? Perhaps it is because we creative types tend to stick together. CC is willing to wager that a hefty cross-section of Vogue subscribers also receive Architectural Digest!

I heart NY
The Manhattan skyline makes a captivating backdrop. See this Brooks Brothers ad;
a recent Bottega Veneta ad; and
Sue Stemp’s recent rooftop show.
Even semi-demolished New York architecture finds itself aligned with fashion, as in this New York Times Style Magazine editorial, shot at the Plaza Hotel. Christian Lacroix Haute Couture, via nytimes.com.
Landmark Status
Last year, J. Crew featured Richard Neutra’s Kauffman House in its catalog. Image via metropolismag.com.
This autumn, another iconic modernist house is the backdrop for chic casual wear: Seven for All Mankind shot its Autumn/Winter 2008 ad campaign at Philip Johnson’s Glass House in New Canaan, CT. The Glass House website is a worth a visit so you can see a video narrated by the house’s current curator.
Column Work:
D&G chose classical architecture as the backdrop for its fall print ads.

Lanvin silk taffeta top and wool skirt in W's Istanbul spread. Note the columns and then look at the next photo...
Shoes often have architectural details: Celine column heel patent peep toe, pictured via Vogue Italia.
Once in a great while, a building is shaped like a shoe! This house in Hellam, Pennsylvania gives new meaning to that old nursery rhyme…

Basso & Brooke offer a Deco inspired print.
CC loves when architecture and design elements find their way into fashion!
